How does this Foray Coffee thing work? Why?

We are a high-end drive-thru coffee shop. By exclusively taking orders and payments through our app we have a chance to have a customer’s order ready when they arrive to get it. We use the GPS information in the phone and our own estimation of how long the order will take to try to have the order finished just before the customer arrives. If we can get this right for most of our customers then everyone can flow right through. Accepting orders or changes to orders or payments in person would ruin our ability to estimate, which would cause people to have to wait, which we are trying to avoid… which is why we don’t allow those.

How does payment work?

Payment is pretty simple. We charge the customer’s payment card when their order is queued into production. More complicatedly stated: If a customer places an order when their travel time to get to Foray is greater than the time needed to make their order, they are not charged until the order is queued into production and can be cancelled at any time. If a customer can get to the pickup site faster than we can make their order, they confirm they are coming and that they are paying immediately for their order. If we screw up an order, we refund its cost.

Right now we can only accept Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards, but in the future we will be able to take other forms of payment.

How do you secure my payment card information?

We use Bambora as our credit card processor. They are big and specialize in credit card processing for internet payments like ours. They do all the security and PCI compliance and hold your card information. Foray Coffee doesn’t save or have access to your card information. This is why you can’t edit your card info in our app.

How do you use my GPS?

When you have the app open we occasionally use your location information to show you the menu and location of nearby pickup sites. When you place your order we intensively use your location data as part of our system to know when to start producing your order so that it’s ready just before you arrive to pick it up. When you don’t have an order in an active status and you have the app running in the background or closed, we are not accessing your GPS data.

Can I pay without a credit card?

You can use a debit card or a pre loaded card, like a Visa gift card. Other more-futuristic forms of payment will be added over time.

Why can’t I use cash?

Because if we receive cash payments our service will slow down and take an unpredictable amount of time, which essentially kills our ability to have customer orders ready just before they arrive at our site.

Why can’t I drive up and order at the window?

Foray Coffee makes a simple deal with our customers: You order and pay ahead of time through our app -- We have amazing drinks and food ready for you to pick up and not wait.
